Caution is replacing optimism as small business owners eye the mid-year economy warily
and prepare for flat results, according to the latest Small Business Economic Trends
survey by the National Federation of Independent Business. Selling prices remained
level in June, but businesses offset decreased sales volumes - which translated into
lower profits - by keeping hiring plans level with May and curtailing spending. Experts
